The session is based on our definition of an effective speaker: “To reach clear objectives – you build ideas with your audience – using great content and authentic delivery.” We don’t subscribe to the “performance coaching” model. Rather, we help you be engaging, interesting, and comfortablein front of an audience without having to “put on a show”.

Whether it is using language appropriate to the audience, bringing focus to your communication through ideas and messages, or dealing with difficult questions and questioners, our unique approach can be applied anytime you’re communicating within your organization, with stakeholders, and with the public.

The content typically encompasses:

  • The definition of an effective speaker/presenter
  • How to set meaningful objectives for the presenter and the audience
  • Ideas – what they are and how to develop and use them as the key themes for your speech or presentation
  • How to better understand your audience and tailor your content and delivery accordingly
  • How to tell an effective story and structure your content so that audience can follow
  • The use of language appropriate to the audience
  • Visual aids and speaking notes
  • Verbal and non-verbal delivery (tone, pace, body language, etc.)
  • Handling question and answer sessions
  • Handling disrupters and distracters
The Trustmakers studio
The live videoconference component is conducted out of our studio in Ottawa. The sessions are interactive, engaging, and professionally produced.

Executives, subject matter experts, and communicators who represent your organization, or support someone else, when participating in public meetings, consultations, community engagement sessions, open houses, and other events. This course will be useful anytime you are speaking, presenting, or conducting question & answer sessions.

This course will help you be a better communicator. You’ll be better able to conduct or participate in meetings and events, represent your organization, and better engage with public audiences.

You will be sent a brief form to fill out that asks about your previous experience and to identify a subject for your practice exercises during the session.

In advance of the session, there are four short eLearning modules to complete. These modules consist of videos, downloads, and automated quizzes that take a combined total of 30 minutes or less to complete.

During the live training session, you will work on a message platform, audience analysis, outlines, and other support material based on examples and formats provided. You will participate in two recorded practice exercises that will then be reviewed and constructively critiqued. These are low-stress exercises where you deliver a brief talk for roughly two minutes based on the material you prepare during the course. The live session is between 3 and 4 hours in duration.
